Why Yoga for Performers? 

Many people who have not experienced yoga have an image of super-flexible (usually skinny) people sitting in lotus position in some state of relaxed meditation.  
 
Yoga can certainly lead to greater flexibility and relaxation, but it offers so much more than that.  Those who practice regularly find yoga also builds stamina, better balance, easier coordination, a stronger immune system, and better weight control.   These are all attributes that are of the utmost importance to performers.  

Yoga practice can be slow, relaxed, docile; fast, aerobic and hot, or some variation of all of these.  It is a very practical exercise system, since you can take it anywhere with you and practice whenever you have a chance.  

In fact, a yoga frame of mind that extends through-out your day is one of the goals of yoga practice.  It requires no special equipment or clothing, and once a practice is developed by working with instruction, it doesn't have to cost anything.    

The approach focuses on developing Pranayama (sanskrit for control of life-force, or breath) through those asanas (fluid postures) that foster the greatest expansion and flexibility for the parts of the body performers use most, (thoracic region and support mechanism, face, and limbs), while avoiding some yoga asanas that might at first be too challenging or potentially compromising for performers.  

For example, postures that may not be initially practical for larger bodies, or that may unnecessarily put the cervical spine, neck muscles, and critical musculature surrounding the vocal folds in jeopardy, are not a part of this practice.  Once a performer is familiar with yoga, more advanced postures can then be incorporated.

How to approach your practice... 

Performers tend to be very competitive people.  
Training the technical side of the performer is usually an intense endeavor with methods, exercises, etudes, vocalises and texts to guide in development of highly complex, disciplined, left-brained activity.  

It is important to let all of that go as you experience yoga.   If you bend over to touch your toes and find you don't go very far at first, there is no need for concern.  
If you take several deep breaths into a slow stretch in that direction (after warming up) and reach your "edge", you will derive the same benefit that a more experienced yogi or yogina finds if her "edge" allows her to take her hands flat to the floor.   

Yoga is not a competitive sport, and as it is an individual practice, there is no need for comparison of one pose or another with anyone else's poses.  Thus, no one is "good at yoga" or "bad at yoga".  
The pretzel poses that we may see on the covers of yoga magazines are interesting and admirable, but are really of no consequence in the whole scheme of things.  

Enlightened yogis actually find it counterproductive to "show off," as truly healthy yoga practice is more about the breath in a pose than the pose itself.  That is why yoga practice is ideal for performers, as our art is based on extraordinary development of breath.  
One merely spends time (ideally measured in breaths rather than minutes) enjoying the benefits of calming the mind, expanding the spirit, and purposefully becoming more aware of the body.

You don't have to be the most flexible person around to do yoga, it is relaxing and over time you will feel the difference. 
The yoga we provide is predominantly Hatha Yoga which is a general term that includes many physical types of yoga. 
It is a good starting point to learn the basics, as well as to develop your practise.

We usually have 3-5 sessions per week (this is dependent on demand and room/instructor availability). Having a knowledgeable yoga instructor means the classes are interesting and varied.

All levels are welcome to any session.

The slow, flowing motions not only builds flexibility but takes a lot of concentation and can help slow a young mind down. 

It can help you child acheive balance in their young lives. 
Almost every children experiences stress with homework; pressure to compete with other children as well as non-stop after-school activities and over scheduling. 

All this can make for a very hectic lifestyle. Kids today, like their parents, are turning to yoga for both HEALTH and RELAXATION. 

 
Yoga for kids is a means of helping them to develop better body awareness, controlling themselves, and flexibility as well as coordination. 

Kids may be able to carry the yoga skills they learn beyond class and into their normal everyday routines.

  • Enables to kids to learn about alphabets and numbers through songs and learning about body parts very interesting
  • The singing and chanting done at yoga classes improves vocal skills

Kids yoga program are full of fun and enjoyment. The kids may pretend to be animals like cat and dog while doing their exercise. The pose as these animals and make sounds like them. Some times a story with characters would be created to support all the exercises.  All the exercises would be packaged in a manner that would interest the kids. The kids would have a nice and also get the benefits of yoga.

WHY BIOBRAN ...


Biobran MGN-3 was originally developed in 1992 by the Japanese research director of Daiwa Pharmaceutical Company. The director was able to develop a new complex composed of polysaccharides, mainly arabinoxylan, which can help strengthen the body's immune response. The product was developed and perfected by 3 individuals, namely Maeda, Ghoneum and Ninomiya. Their initials were used as the basis for the name MGN. Daiwa Pharmaceuticals then marketed it under the name Biobran.


Biobran MGN-3 is composed of molecules of polysaccharides, which are complex carbohydrates. These polysaccharides have been extensively studied for their ability to enhance the body's immune system. Biobran MGN-3 is also rich in fiber, which can aid in digestion and help prevent long-term diseases.

What is shiitake mushroom (shee-TAH-kee ...)

A dark oriental mushroom widely used as a food. 
Several anticancer substances have been found in shiitake mushrooms, including lentinan, which has been studied in Japan as a treatment for stomach and colorectal cancer. 

The scientific name is Lentinus edodes.

(...) Tutto iniziò quando notai un modello negativo nei primi tempi del nostro rapporto. 

Vivevamo una grande vicinanza per alcuni giorni, poi accadeva qualcosa che ci allontanava dal flusso dell'intimità. Poteva essere un litigio, una indisposizione fisica o un problema familiare collegato ai figli o ai parenti. Dopo di che occorrevano giorni o settimane per ritrovare il contatto perduto. 

Un giorno ebbi un'intuizione che ci aiutò a infrangere quel modello. (...) e se fosse stata proprio quella sensazione di pace a provocare quella ridda di pensieri ansiosi ... 

Avevo forse una soglia di benessere, superata la quale dovevo ricadere in basso? Avevo tutto un arsenale di strategie che usavo inconsciamente per riportarmi indietro quando alzavo troppo il termostato del benessere? 

Quell'intuizione mi fece vedere tutta una gamma di nuove possibilità. Perchè dovremmo impedirci di star bene? Nella mia mente si accese la risposta: perchè pensiamo di non meritare di star bene. ... sabotiamo il nostro senso di benessere per il semplice fatto che non siamo abituati a sentirci bene per un periodo di tempo relativamente lungo.

Osservammo attentamente i nostri schemi e comprendemmo che i conflitti del venerdì si producevano all'interno del rilassamento che seguiva a una settimana di lavoro. 

Sembrava che avessimo scarsa tolleranza per quella sensazione di rilassamento, perchè il conflitto scattava dopo poco più di un'ora. Una volta diventati bravi a notare lo schema, imparammo a conservare la vicinanza per periodi di tempo sempre più lunghi. 

Occorse molta consapevolezza e non fu il processo di un giorno. (...) Mentre scrivo queste pagine, sono più di dieci anni che non ci diamo più contro e non ci rivolgiamo una critica.  Come?

Dalla Luna nel pozzo all’Universo in una cisterna: storia e gloria di un progetto divenuto realtà.


Per chi si trovi a passare oggi da Brembate di Sopra non sarà difficile notare il lucente scintillio metallico della “Torre del Sole”, un complesso che si leva maestoso fino a 34 metri al di sopra delle case circostanti. 

La costruzione costituisce un nuovissimo ed originale Parco d’Astronomia che si affianca alle migliori strutture europee dedicate alla didattica, alla divulgazione e alla sperimentazione delle scienze del cielo. 

La struttura è pienamente operativa dal 29 marzo 2008, giorno della sua inaugurazione al pubblico. 

La sua è una storia incredibile inizialmente incerta e tortuosa che l’opera di un pugno di coraggiosi ha saputo  sospingere fino al sidereo palpitare delle stelle.

“La migliore gita scolastica di sempre” 

è la frase più utilizzata dagli alunni per salutarci festosi al momento del loro rientro.
